How appropriate that on the day that the dumbass Phil Rogers once again flogged Albert Pujols as the true MVP (Rogers insists that Pujols should have been the MVP last year as well, exposing him for the Pujols-pumping fraud he is), the real and reigning MVP did it again.
Bottom tenth, 4-4 tie. Left-handed specialist Ray King on the mound for the Braves. Bonds up, ball out, game over. And every single person at Pac Bell knew that was what was going to happen.
Most valuable player? Come on. Pujols is having a fantastic year, and he’s clearly the front-runner to take the crown from Bonds. But this year? No contest, my friends. It’s closer, but it’s still no contest.
UPDATE: Oh, look, my fellow Idiot Phil sent me an e-mail:
SAN FRANCISCO (AP — In his first game back since taking off the weekend series in Montreal to be with his ailing father, Barry Bonds hit his 651st home run leading off the 10th inning as the San Francisco Giants snapped their longest losing streak in three years with a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. From his Chicago home, ESPN.com contributor Phil Rogers shrugged. “Sure it was a dramatic home run,” Rogers said. “But Albert Pujols would have hit a 10th inning game-winning home-run in the first inning, the ninth inning and every inning in between.
“He’s the bestest,” added Rogers, wearing a number 5 jersey, and surrounded by Albert Pujols posters.
As Bonds was mobbed by jubilant teammates, Rogers whipped out a Pujols bobblehead doll and began murmuring, “Oh, my precious.”
