So I’m sitting here watching the third inning of the Angels-Mariners tilt, and Steve “Let the Celebration Begin!” Physioc of Your Angels Announcing Crew is quoting Bret Boone commenting on Vlad Guerrero: “He’s as good as — no, I can’t say he’s as good as Barry Bonds, but he’s that close.”
To which Rex Hudler declares, “[Boone] put [Guerrero] in Albert Pujols’ range, the MVP of the National League last year.”
This is the second time in as many days that I’ve heard someone declare that Pujols was the NL MVP last year.
In the planet I came from, on November 19, 2003, Barry Lamar Bonds was named National League Most Valuable player, with 28 first-place votes. Albert Pujols, an excellent player, finished second with three votes.
If I haven’t fallen into a parallel dimension, is it possible that Phil Rogers has begun to meddle with the fragile minds of broadcasters?
