Well, that was an unfortunate game. Two two-out rallies and no runners past second base save the one forced by Bonds’ walk. But it was a pleasant, somewhat sunny day, a good crowd, some good company, and a nice performance by the kid Cooper in defeat.
When Wayne Franklin came in, however, the game ground to a halt. Just endless, slow, deliberate. And not particularly good.
Bonds, on his day off, ended up playing a couple of innings after pinch-hitting in the 7th, but was left in the on-deck circle in the bottom of the 9th. Which is too bad, because if Tucker had gotten on base, the Brewers would’ve pitched to Bonds… because even Superman can’t hit a game-tying three-run homer with only one guy on base.
