Yes, I’m more than willing to gripe about myopic East Coasters who treat the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry as the center of the baseball universe. (Had a pair of intriguing rivalries here on the Left Coast this past weekend, fellas.) But I also freely admit I spent an inordinate amount of time watching the three Boston-New York games from Yankee Stadium this week.
Hey, thanks to time zone differences, it didn’t intrude on my ability to watch the A’s gack away first place to Anaheim. Plus, watching the Sox-Yankees just gives me more opportunities to familiarize myself with the Foxwoods Resort Casino jingle.
Anyhow, it was during Sunday’s series finale that I saw the early front-runner for Dis-of-the-Year, courtesy of those ever inventive Yankee fans. We’ll let Jeff Horrigan of the Boston Herald explain:
Fans in the front row of the top deck of Yankee Stadium, just above the visitors dugout, attached photos of a smiling [Grady] Little to the facade each time a Red Sox batter struck out.
As you may remember, Little was the Boston manager the last time Pedro Martinez started a game in Yankee Stadium. And things didn’t work out all that well.
Of course, after this weekend’s sweep, maybe Yankee fans are going to look back on the days of Grady Little mismanaging the Sox bullpen with wistful regret.
I'm a die hard Sox fan and at the time I was in NYC. A few of us actually thought it was funny, while others shook their heads because they thought it was stupid. Most Bostonians don't really like Grady Little ... now if they put photos of a frozen Ted Williams head, that would piss off a Sox fan.
