There is joy today in Red Sox Nation. For yea, the Sox have dispatched their hated foes, the Yankees.
But there is joy elsewhere, as well. Joy abounds throughout this land of ours. Not because the Sox won, but because — for the fans of 30 non Sox-Yanks baseball teams — the most evil team in all of professional sport has been sent to the cornfield for another year. (Need I mention that this year, for the first time ever, I borrowed some of Phil’s super powers and placed The Whammy on a baseball team?)
On the bright side, George Steinbrenner may go crazy and lay waste to the Yankees. Then again, he may go crazy and sign every player in the offseason.
D.C. native Brian Cashman will hopefully depart for the Washington Whiz-Bangs, or whatever they’re going to be called. And poor Joe Torre may need to fire his towel boy or something.
I feel for the good people in the Yankees organization who must now face the Wrath of George. But as for the Yankees as an entity, there’s only one emotion I feel this morning: glee.

Yeah. I agree.
I'm just glad I don't have to look at that Yankees lineup any more this season. Hallelujah! I feel like I've seen them all bat hundreds of times in the last month. I refuse to look up stats to see just how often I've watched Jeter bat. And then there are all the loving shots of him by FOX and ESPN even when he's not playing ball.
When the Yankees were up on the Red Sox 3-0, I like to think I did the Sox a favor by posting publicly about how tough the Yankees are. I have my own kind of Whammy, I guess. At the time, I was thinking maybe the Twins were looking pretty good for doing as well as we did against the Yanks so I wasn't gonna mind too much if they beat Boston. Even though in my heart of hearts, I would've rather the Red Sox won.
So much fun watching the Sox come back. And I enjoyed the hell out of watching former Twins David Ortiz and Doug Mientkiewicz play ball (and celebrate).
