Dierdorf on Martz

Posted by Philip Michaels at 11:37 AM in Football

It is late in the second quarter of the Rams-Jets tilt — 1:07 remaining, if you’re one of those sticklers for detail — and Rams have the ball inside the Jets’ 45, trailing 10-7. At this point, Dick Enberg, the play-by-play man on the CBS television network, starts speculating about the Rams playing for a field goal. Which is when Dan Dierdorf — pound-for-pound, the worst analyst working in any broadcast booth on any network for any sporting event — wows us with his sophistication and wit.

I can tell you one thing, Dick. With a minute and seven seconds left, Mike Martz is thinking touchdown… Mike Martz isn’t even thinking field goal right now. I know him well enough to know he is thinking touchdown. He is incapable of thinking anything else in this situation.

Unless, of course, it’s a playoff game.
