A Friendly Wager

Posted by Philip Michaels at 02:38 PM in The Athletics, The Giants

With the A’s and the Giants meeting in pitched battle this weekend, Jason and I will be setting aside our normal collegial spirit in favor of the bitter partisanship one would expect from a contrived regional rivalry. In keeping with that spirit, I would like to propose a friendly wager with my blogmate: if the A’s happen to win this three-game set against San Francisco, I will take over blog-posting duties for the next week.

And if the A’s lose, I will take over blog-posting duties for the next two weeks.

May I ask why the Giants are wearing "Gigantes" on the front of their unis today?

It was in honor of the "rich Latin history" of the club. I think specifically Juan Marichal, whom they unveiled a statue of this weekend. Next month the Red Sox will be wearing "Calcetinas Rojas" jerseys in honor of Luis Tiant

Well, it looks like you have to take over posting duties for the next two weeks. Where did the offense go? Will the real A's offense please stand up?

Rojas, huh? It'd be kinda funny to have a Rojas honored by the Reds, who would be NAMED 'Rojas'.

And if you want to stretch the imagination by about 6 miles, Cookie Rojas was drafted by the 'Cincinnati Redlegs' in 1956. (Red Scare caused a temporary name change.) He then got brought up in 1962 and played with the Reds for one season before leaving for the Phillies. Not much to go on, but it at least makes it possible for a Rojas to get a team named Rojas for a day.
