The ramifications of the Great Cal Screwing of 2004 continue apace.
Today the American Football Coaches Association announced that their final poll votes will be made public starting this season.
However, AFCA executive director Grant Teaff makes it clear that this is just a PR move and that nobody at AFCA feels there’s anything to apologize for:
Teaff said most coaches did not want to release the votes because of the scrutiny it would bring, but decided to vote for the change to quell any “uncalled-for controversy.” He said there are no circumstances where the group would allow their in-season voting to be made public.
The problem with this is, of course, that by only revealing the final votes, nobody will know what coaches changed their votes in order to rig the final results and gain money for their own programs by sending teams from their conferences to the BCS instead of teams from rival conferences.
In related news, did anybody notice that the BCS is now considering a second, fake poll made up of ex-coaches and pundits, in order to replace the AP poll? I kid you not. And of course, that poll will also not be transparent until the final vote.

Anyone else notice that over half this interview was devoted to Notre Dame? I'm so sick of this has-been university dominating the college football coversation like it does, especially considering the fact that I've never actually met anyone who gives a damn at Notre Dame. I've heard lots of television pundits go on and on about them, I just don't know anyone who actually cares. If you're not Catholic, from the Midwest or a talking head, do YOU care about Notre Dame? I want to know what the NCAA is going to do to fix the system, not how changes in the system affect Notre Dame, FFS!
