As pointed out by resident gadfly seth, the Contra Costa Times reports on Cal’s stadium plans (last item):
Plans for the stadium are expected to be released next week before the USC game. That release should stimulate the fund-raising effort. Initial estimates have the Memorial Stadium renovation complete in time for the 2009 season.
Just as I did back in May, let me point out that Stanford plans on starting its stadium renovation this December… and finishing it before the beginning of next season. (Yeah, I don’t know if they’ll manage, but doesn’t 2007 sound better than 2009?)
Ah, the glories of the UC Berkeley bureaucracy.
I’ll still take Pac Bell/SBC/AT&T Park in the “Where will Cal play?” pool.

jason how refreshing of you to point out what is going on with the terrible stadium debacle. i am still seeking answers. the short gist of it appears to be yes, the archaic uc bureaucracy and lack of immediate funding.
stanfurd will get their stadium done pronto! they are so elitist, down with them, down with them!
here is a disturbing letter i received from jay heater of the times. i am so disgusted that i am now going to go VOMIT. believe me i have just begun to explore this issue. if you thought i was merciless to poor child ayoob imagine what i will do to a uc regent...
Q.
jay, JAY! please tell me that you errored in your report that initial estimates put facilities renovation at memorial to be ready for 09 season. God what ever happened to 07? HOW DID ANOTHER TWO YEARS GET ADDED? if this is the case then it's sad cause CAL REALLY NEEDS those facilities to recruit, and of course other stuff like PLAY FOOTBALL! this is a great way to start off my day...

Seth, That was no error, son! Construction should start after the 2006 season with a break so that the 2007 season can be played in the stadium. The 2008 season would be played elsewhere and, lo and behold, 2009 you have stadium bliss. By the way, how long did it take you to scrape those eves on the back of your house? Jay

guys, felt terrible for coach tedford and all of the cal community by the latest news of stadium renovation (or lack thereof) so i sent him this cheer up email...
dear coach,
gee, i was so saddened to hear that stadium renovation may not conclude until the 09 season. isn't that the final year of your contract? anyway, i am sorry that the bureaucracy is no doubt very troubling and time consuming given the fact that stanfurd was able to get their plan off the ground so quickly and cal's continues to largely lay in toil. anyway i will do what i can to help with the fundraiser efforts. i am not wealthy enough unfortunately to make any significant difference personally but perhaps i could accost others' who are. will see what i can do, though don't keep your fingers crossed. i am working on a piece right now about why cal should win tomorrow vs. oregon. i am pretty confident that you guys will give ughm hell.
love ya coach,
seth
p.s. fight the good fight with the recruiting battles, i know that by now the promise of better facilities must seem a little hallow to some recruits but you still have ucb and bay area to wow them with, good luck coach!
No matter what, the Cal Stadium plans sure look better than the A's Stadium plans...
