Given that my previous Cal post generated 18 comments, I’m posting an empty message here to give all the Cal fans out there free rein to talk about Cal-USC, Joe Ayoob, or whatever else you want to talk about. If you don’t take advantage of this thread to say something, don’t say I never tried to do something nice for you.
If you like, you can use the Q&A about USC with Jeff Tedford as a jumping-off point.

ok. let's dismiss any location of ayoob within screaming distance of rodgers. or the line of scrimmage next year. whatever makes a qb, f-yoob hasn't got it. even if the wildly improbable came to pass and ayoob aced spring camp, can he be trusted not to disintegrate under pressure? no.
i've watched every cal qb since dave penhall--charlie young, j torchio, justin vedder, etc.--and ayoob is hands down the worst. even kevin brown (!) beat stanford with a weak cal team.
that said, as a bears fan i can find a golden lining: the big game will be exciting; and it's just a bart ride to the emerald bowl.
ps: riley was at the elite 11 camp last summer. finished 3rd in mvp voting.
Thanks for bringing up the weak armed Justin Vedder and fond memories of the underachievers under Holmoe (Homo). Who could have guessed he is now doing the following:

well guys, as i woke up this morning and was hit with the cold reality of a sad and bad season in berkeley, i looked to the right and saw the poster of the 2005 squad that once shown so promising and was given complimentary at the opener v. sac st., when the mauling of longshore occurred and the nightmare that i have yet to wake from began. i can remember looking up at that poster and thinking what if, what if #18 had never suited up for the bears, where would they be now? i can make a prediction that would be impossible to prove yet easy to believe. had ayoob never arrived in cal we would have gone after another GOOD, young qb! yet as history tells us the california coaching staff decided not to do otherwise. honestly, who can blame them? at the time ayoob looked like a great pick. all of the bay area newspapers, and, the sac, mod, and, fres bee were hyping him as the next, god, i don't know what, but he was supposedly going to be the greatest thing to happen to cal football in a long time.
in hindsight we have learned that ayoob was sent here by the football gods to humble us. humble us for what and why i don't know. i know it is almost like a cruel joke, and i have lost a lot of faith in them (football gods) over the last few weeks as fewer and fewer of my far flung prayers for cal have gone answered. most ignored altogether!
these elitist football gods have decided to further humiliate us by shoving the fact that not only will stanfurd likely keep us out of any semi-decent bowl, they are going to be getting their new facilities a lot sooner than our poor cal compatriots! the ax will no doubt be on its way back to palo alto this year. however, that is not to say that it could not theoretically be peacefully liberated along the way, just to spite the gods and swing the favor back our way!
this is my one and only funny tangent of the day, now i must get a life and hop in shower.

Thanks for the Vedder link, lex. Cal boy makes good! Just not as a QB.
I always liked Vedder. That "Even Flow," that was an awesome song.
