At the USC game, they were handing out small sheets of paper with next year’s schedule printed on it. The old 2006 schedule fell apart because the Pac-10 decided to take advantage of the new, official NCAA 12-game season to make a schedule featuring all nine other Pac-10 teams. Good news — there will be no more skipped match-ups as there have been in the past.
In addition to the nine conference games, Cal’s nonconference opponents were scheduled to be Minnesota, Louisiana Tech, and Tennessee. (Yes, Cal’s playing the Volunteers — at Tennessee in 2006 with a return visit to Berkeley in the offing as well.)
Turns out those paper schedules are now collector’s items. Cal’s game with Louisiana Tech (which oddly was slotted for Oct. 28, the in-conference bye week, rather than in the early part of the schedule as most nonconference games are) has been postponed to Sept. 15, 2007, according to the Contra Costa Times.
This means that Cal is now seeking a new nonconference opponent for next year, for the open Sept. 9 date. Anyone wanna play?
As of now, here’s the Cal schedule for 2006:
| 9/2 | @ Tennessee |
| 9/9 | TBA |
| 9/16 | Minnesota |
| 9/23 | Arizona State |
| 9/30 | @ Oregon State |
| 10/7 | Oregon |
| 10/14 | @ Washington State |
| 10/21 | Washington |
| 10/28 | bye |
| 11/4 | UCLA |
| 11/11 | @ Arizona |
| 11/18 | @ USC |
| 12/2* | Stanford |
* The Contra Costa Times lists this game as 11/25, Thanksgiving weekend. My understanding is that the Big Game will actually be played Dec. 2, making it the first time that Cal has ever played a regularly-scheduled game in December. (The 2001 game versus Rutgers and 2004 game versus Southern Miss were both postponements from earlier-season dates.)

The site Bear Insider has the schedule for the forseeable future. It has the date of the 2006 Big Game on December 2nd as you suggest, Jason. Of course these schedules change, so I wouldn't put too much weight on the 2012 schedule but it is nice to see who Cal has on the horizon. Things like Cal has an arrangement with Ohio St. for 2012...

Dear Jason, I know you will not post this but please read it. I will send it to Kenny as well in hopes that should you delete it before reading, he will deliver it to you.
I am sorry Jason, I have been a jerk all season long. As I look back on my long line of posts to your site I can see how the level of insanity slowly began to rise with the events of the team’s performance. After the UCLA game I really kind of went off the deep end. In that case I broke the ultimate sin and decided to gamble on the game, sure that CAL would prevail.
It was telling how you mentioned the “gamblers TD” in your post that night or early morning. I am not sure why but I really began to target my ire at Ayoob at that point. In hindsight I guess I really messed up on that one, didn’t I? I mean I guess I should have gone about my diagnosis of Ayoob as a clear failure in a more gentle approach, and without the verbiage I chose to employ. I am kind of the laughingstock of Cal Blogging, like Ayoob is the laughing stock of College Football. Sadly ironic, no?
I hope we can still correspond in some fashion or another Jason. I will really miss our friendship…

Hey Seth -- I never set up your posts to auto-delete. I've changed the site to moderate posts, but if I don't have a problem with the content I'm pushing the posts through.
