Word around the campfire is that Jason Kendall is this close to becoming an Oakland Athletic, once the A’s and Pirates can settle on just how much of Kendall’s ridiculous $10 million per annum salary in 2005 (jumping to $11 million in 2006 and $13 million in 2007, just in case you wanted confirmation that you’ve chosen the wrong career) Pittsburgh will pick up.
The price for adding a three-time All-Star who still wields a pretty formidable stick at the plate? Would you believe Fragile Mark Redman and Arthur Rhodes?
Assuming Pittsburgh throws in enough cash to cover the extravagancies of Kendall’s contract, there is no way the A’s shouldn’t pull the trigger on this deal. In fact, if would help smooth things along, let me be the first to offer to personally drive Arthur and Fragile Mark to Pittsburgh just to make sure they don’t darken our clubhouse door next season.
Adding a catcher like Kendall becomes a necessity, by the way, after Damian Miller decided to retire from Major League Baseball and sign with Milwaukee.

OHH! BUUURRRNNNN!!!!
Never should have traded Hernandez, not that we mind down here in San Diego ;)
Steven, I calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Mak, as much as I like Ramon, without trading him to the Padres we never would have gotten our hands on Mark Kotsay, who, for my money was probably the A's MVP last year. That the deal also involved the banishment of Disgruntled Outfielder (TM) Terrance Long only made it an even better deal for the A's.
