‘Roid Rage

Posted by Philip Michaels at 12:55 PM in Baseball

If you happen to be one of the people who reacted to last week’s not-really-all-that-surprising steroid relevations by beating your breast and demanding that all of Barry Bonds’ accomplishments be marked with a scarlet asterisk or expunged from the record book entirely — and if you bloviate for a media outlet, you probably are — ESPN.com’s David Schoenfield points out the folly (intentionally, I’m pretty sure) of that line of thinking.

All hail Ted Kluszewski!

Well, I look at this and David's got a point, thoughI figure he goes a bit far with the 'juiced-ball era' thing, the expansion thing, and the 'no black players' thing. (Also, striking Cecil Fielder for being a DH? And Mays for stadium dimensions? And Luis Gonzalez for having a "suspicious" 57? Come on!)
If we were striking records, I would only strike players who were proven to have cheated in some way during that season. So where do I stop?
*Bonds goes for the clear-and-cream.
*McGwire goes for the andro. I think he stopped in 1998, but of not, strike 1999 as well.
*Sammy 66 stays. The season in which we found his corked bat would be stricken, but no others.
