Bad Journalism

Posted by Jason Snell at 09:57 AM in Baseball, Media, The Giants

So Barry Bonds complains that journalists are out to get him because he doesn’t kiss their asses. What’s the response from the media?

Abject hackery, like this joke from Chronicle columnist Gwen Knapp.

So let’s see, Gwen — what you’re telling us is that only journalistic ethics keep you from performing a hatchet job on Bonds based entirely on your own supposition, speculation, and desire to cause excitement through inflammatory prose?

I think you’ve proved Bonds’ point. As well as the late Hunter Thompson’s classic line about journalists being “cruel f—s.”

Yours truly, a guy with a master’s degree in journalism who is a professional journalist and editor.

(Update: If you’d like to chuckle, read Westwood Blues’ fake transcript of Barry’s press conference. Or heck, you can chuckle at the real thing.) (via 6-4-2.)
