At this weekend’s Pac-10 men’s basketball tournament, University of Arizona head coach Lute Olson tackled the issue of East Coast media bias and whether his conference does enough to promote its member schools. And in doing so, he tackled an issue near and dear to Jason’s heart:
“Cal not being in the BCS in football, it’s a tragedy. There’s no way in the world that Cal should not have been in the BCS. I don’t know if it gets down to politicking, or if it gets down to whether our teams aren’t being seen enough or what. But it needs to be fixed.”
Maybe he’s just grateful for the effort put forth by the Bears basketball team in its first-round match-up with the Wildcats.

I have to agree with Olson -- but you knew I would. Regional Fox Sports Net affiliates can't match the national exposure and promotion of ESPN. And let's not even get into the fact that while most other major conferences offer their second-place team a New Years Day bowl game, the PAC-10 runner-up gets... the Holiday Bowl, where disappointed teams go to die. Who plays against PAC-10 #2 in the Holiday Bowl? Big XII #3. What a terribly run conference. Congratulations to Lute for speaking out.
