Apologies for the disappearing. Tiger kicked my butt and, frankly, having an 8-month-old in the house hasn’t helped either. (Yeah, TeeVee’s even worse off than Idiots Write About Sports right now. So sad.)
Today I noticed that Baseball Prospectus’s Will Carroll was having a Mac-related issue, and since I found a solution, I wanted to share with our baseball-savvy and computer-savvy audience out there.
If you use the video-related features of MLB.com, including the live MLB.TV streams, and you’re a Mac user who has recently updated to the shiny new operating system known as Tiger, you’ll discover that the Windows Media Player doesn’t seem to connect to the streaming media you so clearly desire.
There’s a quick workaround. Open the Windows Media Player app (yes, they make Windows Media for Mac — did you know they make Microsoft Office for the Mac too?) and go to Preferences. Under Network Settings, uncheck Multicast, UDP, and TCP, leaving only HTTP as a checked protocol.
This got MLB.TV working for me on my Tiger installation.
