Happy New Year from… El Paso?

Posted by Philip Michaels at 01:49 PM in Cal Football

The Cal Bears are Sun Bowl-bound! The Cal Bears are Sun Bowl-bound!

Which is a pretty neat trick, considering the Cal Bears have yet to play a down of football this season.

But nevertheless, the California Golden Bears can expect to play in the 2005 Sun Bowl where they will take on their hated natural enemy, the crafty Golden Gopher of Minnesota. That’s according to Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandell who predicts the participant in every bowl game, thoughtfully sparing us from having to play the 2005 college football season. Mandell predicts a fourth-place finish for the Bears (or, more accurately, a tie for third with Oregon), and the fourth place Pac-10 team goes to El Paso so…

So I guess on or about December 30, you can check back here, and find a post from either Jason or myself (or possibly both of us) reporting on the doings from historic Sun Bowl Stadium. And, just as with the Holiday Bowl last year, there will be many exciting photos, some of which that won’t look like they were captured by satellites, hopefully.

The Sun Bowl actually takes the #3 team in the Pac 10-- take a look at his bowl lineup again. I guess if UO and Cal were to tie the Sun Bowl would get their pick of the two teams...

Go Bears!
