Major League Baseball and the Hall of Fame have opened up fan balloting for the Ford Frick Award, which honors baseball broadcasters. You’re not voting for the recipient of the award, mind you — just who will be on the final ballot. And the top vote-getters are not even assured of winning the honor — the powers that be pick seven other names to go on the final ballot as well.
So why should you take the time to vote? Because I can think of no better honor for the late Bill King — other than a donation to the two causes he was passionate about — than to vote early and often for this great broadcaster to finally get his spot in a Hall of Fame. Perhaps, the basketball and football versions will be moved to follow suit.
You can vote once a day for up to three candidates. If the other two spots on your ballot contain the names “Joe Morgan,” “Tim McCarver,” or “Steve Physioc,” then I’m afraid we can’t be friends any more.
