This week’s winner of the Justin Tryon Award: Dante Rosario of Oregon, who head-butted DeSean Jackson on the sideline and, in his crowning achievement, jumped in the air and spiked a Cal special-teams player (above, spot shadowed) during DeSean’s punt return.
The punt return infraction was hilarious. The crowd was worried that a Cal player had been flagged for an illegal block in the back, when in fact the ref had flagged Rosario for going out of his way to spike a defenseless player. Tedford was furious, gesturing for them to kick Rosario out of the game.
So what did they do? The refs waved off the flag, saying it was unintentional contact. Unintentional my ass.
Toss in the screwing of Washington yesterday and it’s safe to say that this has not been a banner year for Pac-10 officiating.

Hear, hear
What blew me away was that the TV guys completely missed the head butt, even though they replayed it at least three times.
I don't know what you're talking about. Pac 10 officials have had a great year, just ask Oregon.
The on-side kick blunder against Oklahoma says it all.
I was watching from the student section, and was ecstatic when the flag was waved off. Yesterday, watching the game on tivo, I saw the atrocious play, and was in shock. How does the ref throw that flag, and not enforce the penalty? I can understand if they just plain missed it, but seeing it and then calling it off is just indefensible.
And I second the comment about the head butt.
But hey, we walloped Oregon and are back in the top 10. And I like that Herbstreit is jumping on the DeSean for Heisman bandwagon.
yeah i was watching that too. it was like ok, desean gets knocked to the ground, ok, very bad. then that dude head butted him and it's like hmm, didn't see nuthin thar... it just blew me away. and that guy kicking the poor cal player on the ground. i too dvr'd the game and personally i loved the reenactment coach tedford gave later to the ref. that needs to be put on u tube, did anyone else catch that?
yeah, i saw it. it was hallarious. he demonstrates how his player was on the ground and then motions the kick. haha. But seriously if mike belloti doesnt descipline that kid then hes lost all the respect that I once had for him.
