Smelly Tree-Hugging Hippies to Tedford: Drop Dead

Posted by Jason Snell at 11:28 AM in Cal Football

Walking to the Big Game, we passed by a bunch of hippies protesting the stadium development, which will require the cutting down of several oak trees.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not hate trees. Trees are beautiful. They generate shade, and oxygen, both of which I enjoy.

That said, the trees on the west side of Memorial Stadium need to go. They need to go so that the coaches and players of Cal’s athletic teams can get out of the rickety old stadium before it comes down on top of them. So that that stadium can then be repaired, to be safe and more comfortable for stadium patrons. And so that Cal can continue to have a successful athletics program and a successful football coach.

Which is why, as we passed the hippies, I provided a variation of a traditional big game chant.

Give ‘em the Axe, the Axe, the Axe!
Right in the trunk, the trunk, the trunk!

As is widely known, I do dislike hippies. Hippies are silly. They generate unpleasant smells and ridiculous controversies, neither of which I enjoy.

Yeah, I interviewed one of them. I haven't had time to transcribe it yet but I'll be posting an article in the next couple days.

It cracks me up the reference to intoxication of the fans. My brother (who doesn't drink at all) was giving them a bad time saying "cut 'em down" and the guys say "I know you're drunk".

Why is it that anyone who disagrees with them is drunk?

Because they're stupid, smelly hippies. And they're stoned.

My complete alcohol intake on Saturday: One glass of beer. AFTER the game.

They're still hippies.

Well the good news is that the UC Regents approved the project this week so the project will continue to go forward. Of course that means that we're all headed for court.

Agreed. They are trying to ruin everything. The arrogant self righteousness that seeps out of every hippy is discusting. They need to grow up already and get a real life, along with a real cause. If it were up to the hippies there would be no football at all. Just hugging and loving and pot smoking. The hippies hate our way of life, and they hate the California Golden Bears, I therefore, hate the hippies!
